Our Wedding Blog
Here we will be sharing news and updates in regards to our wedding, much like a blog. We will post some pictures, progress as we continue planning, and any new information in regards to the process.
Invitations and Announcements
It's official! Well, it has been official since November of last year, but that's fine. Wedding invitations have gone out, albeit, a little late. Thank you so much for all of the positive feedback that we've received. For those of you who don't know, print design is one of my [...]
Stress-Free As Possible (Also, Clothes)
At this point, we are definitely counting down the days until the wedding! We can’t believe it is so close. It is funny, usually wedding-planning can be so high-stress–in fact, that seems to be the relative standard. Derrick and I knew from the beginning that we wanted to keep things as simple as possible to help alleviate that. Between maintaining our family dynamics making time for each other and extended family, and our jobs–life is busy enough! I’m sure all of you can relate.
We have been truly blessed in the fact that thus far, the most “stressful” part of planning everything has been selecting wedding attire. I only say “stressful,” because in case you don’t know, there are practically no dresses in an appropriate “copper” color. Ha! Thankfully, the maid- and matron-of-honour have found stunning dresses, despite this challenge.
With that said, I have had several guests ask me “What color should I wear?” this is kind of funny to Derrick and me because it is nothing we have ever thought of before. Hopefully, we can put some minds at ease. Although we will have a “dress code”–I guess? That phrasing makes it seem a little too “high school” for my tastes, but I digress–we are not asking that anyone adhere to a specific color palette. Of course, the respective wedding parties have guide lines, but as our guests, our greatest concern is that you are comfortable.
This is Florida.
We are acutely aware that it can be hot and humid, even in November. Many of our guests are from out-of-town as well. If you prefer to wear a lighter color to stave off the effects of the sunlight, please feel free to do so, even if you choose to wear white–gasp! I know. Trust us, it is fine.
Ultimately, we are looking forward to simply sharing this experience with you, and hope that you enjoy yourselves!
Summer Update
It’s interesting to think that the summer is nearly over. It is strange to think of how much time has passed since we sent out our Save-The-Dates to now. Honestly, this summer has been such a flurry of activity, and fortunately (or perhaps not, depending on your perspective) most of it has not included wedding plans. Honestly, so much of the “big stuff” was taken care of so quickly that up until now, we’ve really been able to relax and focus on life. (I mean, that is enough work in itself, right?)
Now, however, as the summer is coming to a close, we find ourselves hustling and bustling a bit. Women are on the hunt for dresses–or have found them!–and men are picking up the things they need. Wedding invitations are going out soon (so be sure to check the mail!) and it has been great fun creating the suite and putting them together.
Despite how much time has passed, November still seems a ways off. We have to keep reminding ourselves that “less than four months” isn’t that long.
In the mean-time, even if there isn’t much hands-on planning that Derrick and I have to do for the wedding, life will certainly keep us busy enough!
Keeping It Weird
Recently, Derrick and I went on a trip to Portland to see Stefan and Milly. (I say “recently,” but at this point it was nearly a month ago.) Portland definitely didn’t disappoint this year. The weather was beautiful (surprisingly!), the food was amazing, the city was busy with different fairs and festivals, and we were able to get out and do a lot more than we have in the past because we had the opportunity to take the whole week off. Best of all, we were able to celebrate Stefan’s birthday.
One day, we were able to go kayaking with Stefan and Milly. We ended up rowing to a small island where we were able to stop and eat before heading back down river and we were able to get some beautiful pictures. The weather was bright and sunny, but cool and dry. We must have been out on the river at least 2-and-a-half hours. It was truly breathtaking.
We really spent a lot of time out-of-doors while we were there. When we weren’t eating, we were walking; when we weren’t walking, we were sleeping. When Derrick and I were left to our own devices, we walked up to the hospital to look out over the observation deck. There’s a tram at the foot of the hill that will take you to the hospital at the top. It is probably the most “touristy” thing we could possibly do in Portland, and we love it. We also went walking through the Pearl District and spent one of our days there, just walking through the smaller shops in the area.
Honestly, we did so much, at this point it is all kind of a blur. We went to the most amazing food truck, with waffles for buns (which is Derrick’s favorite thing), went to a great cider bar with Stefan and Milly, visited Pittock Mansion, hiked up to the summit at Multnoma Falls (I made it to the top this time!), visited Sauvie Island and so much more. We can’t wait to go back, but in the mean time, we can share some of our favorite pictures from the trip.
10:00am – Ceremony
Our short wedding ceremony will be starting promptly at 10:00am.
We ask that everyone arrive between 9:30am and 9:45am so that they have time to arrive, park, find their seats and get comfortable.
We also request that all devices–phones, cameras, etc.–be put away during the ceremony. A professional photographer will be taking photos and we promise, promise, promise that we will post them for everyone to have copies of.

STAY UPDATED
Although our wedding has long since passed, we still appreciate your interest. Instead of RSVPing to an expired event, please take the time to sign up to our mailing list, as we continue to update our blog and add pictures of milestones in our life together. Thank you!
